Thoughts on Angel

I've finished watching seasons 2 & 3 of Angel during the long weekend. I also watched season 1 through Josh's bootlegs over the period of a month. Keep this in mind when you read my thoughts on the show (I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] ramaxela is the only one who cares).

I've caught random Buffy and Angel episodes on TV numerous times but due to the nature of the shows I never truly understood what was going on. Whenever I watched I never really liked Buffy but Angel always resonated with me. Which is why I decided to skip Buffy and go straight to Angel.

I was impressed by the VERY tight storyline, many shows have inconsistencies but Angel's storyline is very well written and free of 'couldn't he just...' or 'why wouldn't that work' moments. I used to compare storyline tightness with the first couple of seasons of ER, but Angel takes its place. The story makes sense and captivates the viewer, something I'm not so sure it could've done on a bigger network. The humor is nice and punctuates the seriousness without being in your face. I absolutely love Skip the demon guide.

I thought season 2 was the best season I've seen. Darla and Lindsey are two very strong characters and that story arc just kicked ass. Much as I want to like season 3 as much, it just comes off looser and weaker overall.

I just can't write too coherently, needless to say I like the show. I finally have a better idea of what Josh and Alex are talking about. I look forward to borrowing more episodes and watching this great show!
